Comedians

551 - JAMIE HUTCHINSON - How He: Nearly Killed Someone, Got Fired For W*nking & Was Rejected By Pot Noodle

We’re joined by highly requested chaotic comedian Jamie Hutchinson, in an episode that covers everything from his weird solo hobbies, to his horse racing obsession, to the unconventional way he deals with hecklers.

He temporarily became the fastest human on the planet, has beef with the producers of a famous TV show, and once breastfed a guy on stage. We find out why he completely rebranded himself as "Hutchy" in Year 5, and why his family fell out over a nose job.

He confesses how he nearly killed a young girl, and all the chance encounters that led him to unexpectedly finding love, including having his heart broken in a soft play…

We also test his knowledge of Manchester slang, and force him to react to his own hate comments! There’s fake darts tournaments, fruit-based business pitches, Football Manager chat, and the age-old question: how many 6-year-olds could Jamie fight at once?

It’s wild, it’s unhinged, it’s Hutchy.

536 - Dan Tiernan - From Dyspraxic Dinner Lady To British Comedian Of The Year!

In this episode of Happy Hour, we spend 90 minutes with comedian Dan Tiernan who is as brilliant as he is bizarre. From dealing with dyspraxia, to working as a school dinner lady, to being crowned British Comedian Of The Year in 2022 - Dan doesn’t like to take the conventional path.

His second EVER stand up gig was an impromptu set in New York, and he’s performed at Live At The Apollo with one of Jaack’s comedy heroes! He’s also tried his hand at acting (he caused a TV show to be axed after his appearance) and performing magic (Dan details a gruesome injury from when his trick went wrong).

He shares why an audience member threw his entire drink over him at one of his shows, and the insult dealt by fellow comic Jon Richardson that Dan will never forgot.

We also chat about his gout diagnosis, how gout affects his daily life, what his first gout symptoms were, what caused his gout… what we’re trying to say here is that it’s a very “gout heavy” episode.

If you take just one thing away from this episode, make it Dan’s life-saving Natwest banking hack!

532 - TOM DAVIS - BAFTA Winner, Bad Auditions & Bludgeoning Pigeons

We sit down with the multi-talented comedian, actor and all-around lovely geezer Tom Davis who has us howling for 90 minutes! Tom’s first job as a scaffolder is a far cry from the red carpets he walks today. Despite having never had any acting lessons, Tom stars in Wonka and Paddington 2. He shares what Timothée Chalamet is like off screen, and why the trailer he was given on set caused a bit of a problem!

Tom co-created BAFTA winning ‘Murder In Successville’ which, despite ITV not being keen on the sitcom in the first script read through, went on to have a Netflix USA adaptation. Tom went from being a scaffolder to a stand up comedian in just a few years - though not without a few bad gigs along the way, especially a particularly bad set at Download festival where bodily fluids were thrown at him…

We also chat about his podcast Wolf and Owl with fellow comic Romesh Ranganathan, and his one bad habit that had his viewers fuming. Plus why he’s not a huge supporter of Edinburgh Fringe, his scary footie match experience, and one of his early jobs scaring pigeons!

530 - RUSSELL HOWARD - Mugged For Muffins, Borrowing Klopp's Flip Flops & Jam Jar Binks

Stand up comedian Russell Howard drops by to become Happy Hour’s first guest of 2025 and, much like his first appearance in 2021 (ep #238), he does not disappoint! Whilst Russell’s heartwarming tales of becoming a dad for a first time will hopefully have your heart full… hearing the phrase “lucky jizz” later in the pod will definitely just have your heart full of questions...

Russell shares why his dad had to stop kissing him, and the insanely valuable gift from Ed Sheeran that he LOST. From being mugged for cupcakes, to awkward supermarket encounters, to the disgusting habit that made him late for his own gig, this episode is packed full of silly stories bound to set up the end of your week nicely!

522 - SIMON BRODKIN - Embarrassing Donald Trump, Gatecrashing Kanye's Glasto Set & Pranking FIFA President Sepp Blatter

In today’s Happy Hour (and a half) the boys are joined by funny man Simon Brodkin (who you may also know as his working class comedy character Lee Nelson!) 10 years ago almost to the day, Simon was one of the first people Jaack ever interviewed, so it felt apt to bring him back for a full circle moment to remember! Simon’s only tattoo might say “no regrets” but Jaack certainly has one after a highly embarrassing quickfire question…

What is it like to gatecrash American president Donald Trump on a golf course? HOW did Simon not get shot for his antics? Marginally, is the answer. Simon reveals everything that happened both before and after he pranked Trump.

Simon explains just how he managed to join Kanye West on stage, unannounced, during his headline Glastonbury set causing Kanye to stop the entire show! Theresa May, the Man City team, Volkswagen and the president of FIFA Sepp Blatter have all also been on the receiving end of Brodkin’s stunts… and there’s no stone left unturned today as the boys discuss them all in great detail.

496 - FIN TAYLOR - Roast Battles, Punched On Stage, & Fin vs The Internet

Stand up comedian, unhinged rollneck-wearing interwiewer, and Robbie Knox’s favourite comic Fin Taylor joins us! Fin explains how he ended up being the only boy at an all girls boarding school, and what he did that made the headteacher personally apologise to him.

Fin chats working on Deal or No Deal and the weird item Noel Edmonds has hidden in his dressing room. Plus, why Fin’s Nan is possibly one of the worst human beings. Speaking of Nans, Fin explains the job he had that involved warming up Nanas!

We of course talk about Jaack and Stevie’s appearance on Fin vs The Internet and why they all decided to prank Robbie! Plus what happened at a house party with a pig and game of Spin The Bottle…

490 - RHYS JAMES - 'Mock The Week' Secrets, Supporting Alan Carr, & Bankrupt From His CAT

Comedian Rhys James swaps stand up for... sit down... as he joins Jaack and Stevie in the Happy Hour studio! Rhys is no stranger to panel shows, having appeared on Live At The Apollo and Mock The Week countless times. He shares some insider secrets, and exactly why prepping for a show is pretty tough.

Rhys tells us why he swapped politics for comedy to kick off a stand up career aged 17, and shares how he convinced people that Alan Carr supported HIM. Rhys also reveals what Tommy Fury did that made him cringe when he was sat near him at the England semi final, and why his cat (given its name by a very famous comedian) is making him bankrupt...

We also play a game of 'Rhys James or Reece James' where we ask Rhys whether the tweets were from Rhys James, or Reece James. Confusing? Slightly. Worth a listen? Absolutely.

467 - MATT RICHARDSON - Partying with Kate Moss, X Factor Sex Pests, & Being A Fake Pilot

Comedian, presenter, and now affectionately known as “Will Second Best” - Matt Richardson brings laughs aplenty to the Happy Hour studio!

Matt shares stories from his time hosting Xtra Factor and has a RAUNCHY Sharon Osbourne story to tell! Speaking of raunchy, there’s also fairy porn chat, and a previous X Factor contestant who flashed him on a bus! Plus the time Kate Moss held him hostage and forced him to party.

It’s not all glitz and glamour however, as Matt shares why he was kicked off a photoshoot with his girlfriend, and gives us an entire run down of how he likes to spend his spare time role playing as a pilot…

465 - JOSH WIDDICOMBE - Selling Fake Burberry, Writing For Dora The Explorer, & Gigging To Just TWO PEOPLE

Gracing the yellow studio today is the first comedian that Stevie ever saw live, and a longtime comedy hero for Jaack - it's Josh Widdicombe! Before becoming a hugely successful comic, Josh had some very unconventional jobs, including shilling fake designer gear on a German market, and writing for a magazine from the perspective of a 7 year old girl...

Josh shares his genius pre-drink tactics from university, and his addiction that he participates in 8 times a day. Josh also shares the worst gigs he's ever done - from performing in front of a crowd of just TWO people, to gigging at a farming college that involved a tradition of downing a pint of piss...

We play a game of 'fill in the blank' featuring headlines from when Josh has made the news, learn about his tactic for getting more screen time when featuring on panel shows, and enjoy making Stevie VERY uncomfortable by bringing up with he did to Jon Richardson...

Plus Josh's hatred for a certain genre of film, whether the perfect joke exists, and his favourite memory of Sean Lock.

439 - JOSH PUGH - From Twitter Sketches, to Live At The Apollo! Plus Playing For England, & BIZARRE Village Tradition...

Jaack’s favourite comedian of 2023 has the honour of being our last guest of the year! Josh Pugh has featured on comedy shows, performed Live At The Apollo, and has even opened for Ricky Gervais. He chats stand up comedy, Twitter sketches, and dealing with hate comments.

He also tells us about the weirdest tradition we’ve ever heard, which involves his entire hometown getting into a scrap over a ball…

407 - JOE WILKINSON - Chatabix, Returning To Stand Up & Working With Gervais!

LISTEN UP BISCUITS! Comedian, writer, actor, podcaster, and Robbie Knox lookalike Joe Wilkinson is making his debut on Happy Hour! With Alfie being a huge Chatabiscuit, we of course asked Joe all about his podcast with David Earl. Despite Joe's chaotic and expensive stunts, he's somehow managed to keep his job as a regular on '8 Out Of 10 Cats' - he shares the only 2 stunts in 12 years that the studio has turned down, and why!

Joe has acted in 'Derek' and 'After Life' and shares exactly how the roles came about, why he didn't turn up on his first day shooting, and what it's like to work with Ricky Gervais. Plus getting mixed up with his lookalike Robbie Knox, how his childhood hobby nearly killed people, and we also play a game of "fill in the blank” with Joe's hilarious old tweets. Crunch crunch!
